Bartenders often call out "Last Call" toward the end of a night so everyone can spend just a little more money and get just a little more toasted.
But it's also the final opportunity for closing on or finding a partner for the balance of the night, if you can still stand up (etc.). This song tells the story of a last call applying to both, even as the couple originally came in together. Things change. People meet other people. Decisions must be made.
This original song was composed, played (except pedal steel), and recorded by Loose Bruce Kerr. He had a 20 year career as a solo, duo, band from 1973 after he quit his job to go on the road till 1993.
But he continues to this day to write songs & parodies, with over 160 song plays on the famed Dr. Demento Show right up to its closing last year. He also opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic back in the day.
He's now retired and living in northern California.
